Dear,
[Name]
We’re writing to let you know about some changes to our Privacy Policy relating to how we collect, use and share your personal information.
As you might know, in March this year, Serif (Europe) Ltd, the developer of Affinity, joined forces with Canva. We’re updating our Privacy Policy to clarify how your data will be used and shared between Affinity and Canva, so we can support our growing customer base, including the addition of thousands of schools and nonprofits which have signed up to receive Affinity for free.
How will my personal data be shared within Canva?
Going forward, Affinity may share your personal data within the Canva group, for example:
- If you submit a product support request. We’re expanding our customer support using Canva employees, which means more staff, and more support coverage. Hence, the information you submit with your support request may be shared within the Canva group.
- If you’re having a problem with your Affinity account. We may need to share your account details within Canva to resolve payment, access and other account issues.
- If you choose to take part in user research, this may be run by Canva. The development of Affinity has always been community led, with your feedback shaping every version of Affinity so far. Voluntary research plays a big part in gathering this feedback.
You can find full details in our updated Privacy Policy at https://affinity.serif.com/privacy/
Does this mean my Affinity content will be used to train Canva’s AI?
No, we don’t use your Affinity content to train AI features. Your Affinity files are stored locally, and we cannot access them. If you share your files or screenshots of your work with us (for example, as part of a support request), we will not use this content to train our AI features.
For context, Canva does not train AI features on its users' content without permission. Users are opted out by default. For Canva Creators, designers who contribute elements and templates to the Canva library, Canva has committed $200 million in AI and content royalties so these creatives are compensated if they allow their work to be used to train AI features.
We’re grateful for your continued support as we continue with our exciting plans for Affinity.
Yours sincerely,
The Affinity team
