I’ll be live on national TV tomorrow, talking about tariffs, and the intricacies of running a queer-and-women-led business rooted in equitable sourcing of regeneratively farmed spices from India and Sri Lanka!
TUNE IN AT 8AM ET, MONDAY, JUNE 9TH, TO CATCH MY SEGMENT ON CBS MORNINGS!
This is my second time ever on national TV repping our spice biz, and such a big deal for us! We’re halfway through 2025 (first of all, how??), and as y’all know, the global tariffs announced in April were quite the curveball for our business. Being on this segment feels incredibly meaningful and important to us as a business because we’re committed to be resilient AF, no matter how hard it is—a solid learning from spending so much time with our farm partners, and with the earth, its plants, and its many wonderful critters—and I’m so excited to talk more about it on CBS Mornings!
When the tariffs were announced, we were right in the middle of harvest season, outlaying tremendous amounts of cash (carefully squirreled thanks to your holiday gift orders!) to our ~140 regenerative farm partners who were working overtime to get their crops processed and delivered to us. All of those beautiful, fresh spices have now landed in our warehouse in Portland, and to celebrate, we’re bringing them all back in stock together on Wednesday, June 11th aka New Harvest Day!! More details soon, but for now, tune in on Monday, and mark your calendars for Wednesday for a big, fresh spice shop!
Thank you, as always, for making our spices a part of your kitchens and tables, and helping us keep this dream going, even (especially!) when times are hard. It's true that we're just out here slingin' spices and some days it isn't much more complicated than that. But most days, we really do it out of a relentless and wild idealism that this work is political and that we're fueling change just as much as we're feeding our community.
With love and in community,
Sana Javeri Kadri
