Everyone, say hello to our new, limited edition, aromatic, soothing Kashmiri Kehwa or spiced saffron tea, created in collaboration with the lovely Song Tea & Ceramics!!!
I’ve been a tea > coffee drinker for most of my life, and a regular customer of Song Tea for the past 8 years No plane ride, no farm visit, no morning ritual is complete without a cup. So, when we decided to turn the beautiful Kashmiri Kehwa recipe from our cookbook into a product you can add to your pantry, Song was my very first choice! I absolutely love their commitment to craftsmanship and flavor, both things we hold so dearly at Diaspora!
Kehwa is a spiced saffron tea that came to being in Kashmir via the many migrations the Silk Route spurred. The saffron came to Kashmir via Iran, almonds from Afghanistan, and green tea from China. Even the samovar it is traditionally brewed in — an ornate metal vessel — came from Russia via Iranian and Turkish traders. Our Kashmiri Kehwa is rich and deep from Song’s Wild Gongmei tea foraged by their partners in the eastern Fujian Province, floral and aromatic from our Kashmiri Saffron, warming from our cinnamon and cardamom, and slightly nutty from slivered almonds! It’s best enjoyed with a little bit of bread, so sip it alongside shortbread, mooncake or a slice of buttered toast! You’re going to absolutely love it!

I remember my first visit to the Mir family farm in Pampore, Kashmir (Raqib is now our beloved Kashmiri Saffron farm partner). It was February, and Pampore was covered with a thick blanket of snow. Inside the Mir family home, Raqib poured me a cup of saffron-laced, marigold-hued kehwa, his mother’s recipe. It was immediately soothing, and possibly the warmest gesture to start off a long-term business relationship and now dear friendship. I hope your cup soothes your soul just like it did mine 💕
