GOOD VIBES 118 - SAMIR ALIKHANIZADEH AKA HAPPA
Words from Samir AKA Happa himself: the theme is “music for walking/reading/floating” - two hours of ambient, new age and drone with some field recordings because I can’t help myself. Find focus or fade away...

HOT CHIP - COMING ON STRONGERER
Hot Chip's seminal debut album, originally released on Moshi Moshi Records in 2004, now available in a special expanded deluxe edition. Celebrating 20 years of Coming on Strong, the special expanded triple LP version features 7 bonus tracks and a bonus photo booklet featuring archive photos of the band from the noughties. There's a lovable oddball quality to the album with hints of Prince, The Beastie Boys, Beck... a souled-up folk vision of chilled out pop music with a twist. Hot Chip display an omnivorous approach to the entirety of alt, 60's pop and electronic music history. Their songs are infectious, silly, and often weirdly beautiful.

AROOJ AFTAB - NIGHT REIGN
Grammy-winning Arooj Aftab is set to release Night Reign, the follow up to her critically-acclaimed album Vulture Prince, on 31 May on Verve Records. Aftab makes the night the focus of this nine-song collection. Entirely in her own voice and through her own story, she delves into the multifaceted, bold and fascinating realm that comes to life after dark. Some nights are for falling in love, some are for solitude and introspection, some are to be annoyed at a forced social gathering–and so go the stories of Night Reign. The album features new friends like Cautious Clay shredding on flute, Moor Mother echoing Aftab’s sentiment of how cruel the world is, and Chocolate Genius aka Marc Anthony Thompson lending his tender sensibilities to a song about being grounded.

JESSICA PRATT - HERE IN THE PITCH
On her fourth album, west coast artist Jessica Pratt expands the scope of her artistry, placing her sharpest songs to date within an ever-broadening pool of influences including spectral '60s pop, Hollywood psychedelia and bossa nova. Whereas Pratt's 2019 record, Quiet Signs, floated elegantly in the ether, Here in the Pitch is entrenched in more earthen characteristics, as the title suggests, and her craft is emboldened with a newfound gravitas.

MABE FRATTI - SENTIR QUE NO SABES
A sense of destiny hangs over Sentir Que No Sabes, Mabe Fratti’s fourth solo-credited album released in a five year span. Her work has always possessed a finely tuned sense of drama capable of expressing a range of emotional states, and across this new album, she conveys the struggle to process various relationships or situations–and the actions that come next. Sentir Que No Sabes is urgent and clear, poppy, generous and approachable, while showcasing a considerable emotional hinterland. It is also, as Fratti is quick to mention, “groovy.” Written and recorded with her partner, multi-instrumentalist, and co-composer Héctor Tosta (I.La Católica, Titanic), Sentir Que No Sabes is the result of an intense, detail-oriented process.

ROSALI - BITE DOWN
Bite Down, the Merge Records debut of Rosali, finds acclaimed songwriter and guitarist Rosali Middleman in the midst of transition. Written after moving to North Carolina from her longtime home of Philadelphia, Bite Down is a searching, hungry record by an artist who is resolved to bite down on life, in all its horror and joy. She is joined here by Mowed Sound David Nance (bass, guitar), James Schroeder (guitar, synth), Kevin Donahue (drums, percussion) and in studio by Destroyer collaborator Ted Bois (keys). Bite Down is Rosali’s second album working with Mowed Sound, and there is urgency and ambition in their collaboration a band pushing each other not just to expand on what they’ve already done together, but to break through into altogether new territory.

GHOST DUBS - DAMAGED
"If David Lynch had ever been driven to dub, it might well have sounded like this...an early contender for the best of the year" - The Wire Magazine Ghost Dubs, real name Michael Fiedler, aka Jah Schulz, announces a rebirth with 'Damaged', his first album for The Bug's PRESSURE label. Having recently dropped two criminally overlooked, experimental dub LPs, with his 'Dub Over Science' series, the German producer/bass specialist, now stretches his own parameters of outwardness still further, with these twelve fresh explorations of dub deviance.

MJ LENDERMAN - MANNING FIREWORKS
MJ returns with another surefire must hear and own album. This guy can do no wrong. The anatomy of an MJ record might go something like this: warped pedal steels and skuzzed out guitar; crackin' a cold one with some buds; a voice reminiscent of the high-lonesome warble of a choirboy.
