Since 2021, the Sweaty Betty Foundation has been on a mission to empower women and girls to live healthier, happier and more active lives. How? By working with schools and local communities across the UK to break down the barriers they face when getting active.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Foundation teamed up with sports activist Lipa Nessa to launch a new sports hijab. With 52% of girls reporting feeling self-conscious in PE kit*, the project aims to boost confidence and empower girls from all backgrounds to get into sport.
300 hijabs were donated this year, with 300 more planned for 2025.

This year the Foundation teamed up with Greenhouse Sports and Teach First to host Period Workshops for 400 schoolgirls across the UK, designed to combat the stigma around periods and break down the barriers to getting active.

The Foundation also continued its partnership with Black Girls Hike, a group which provides a safe space for Black women to explore the outdoors.
Together, they’re working to inspire girls to get into hiking, as well as develop new skills and boost confidence. Watch this space for more hikes in 2025. |

This year, the Play Her Way campaign with Sporting Equals brought together communities in Greater Manchester to support the least active girls. By creating a strong network of local organisations, the goal is to build a future generation of active women. |
