Nayib Bukele is Trump’s new authoritarian role model
So, the president of El Salvador came here to DC this week, and our president had nothing but praise for him. My colleague Zack Beauchamp asked why that was, and came up with an interesting hypothesis: Donald Trump doesn’t just like President Nayib Bukele, he wants to be an American Bukele. And his efforts to take that mantle for himself may be his undoing.
Trump’s tariffs have an unexpected side effect
Everyone is looking for a bright side to the tariff chaos we’ve seen over recent days (and will continue to see in the days ahead). For some, maybe it’s the price of gold going up. For others, it’s seeing industrialists they do not like lose lots of money. You’ve probably seen the articles chock-full of tips to help you navigate allergy season. Dylan Scott offered something else this week: an article about an emerging solution to the allergy scourge. There’s hope out there, and good news may be just around the corner.

Keep an eye out for Today, Explained (the newsletter) next week, when I go deeper on this topic with Today, Explained's very own Gabrielle Berbey.
That’s all for now. Thanks for letting me into your inbox. And if you have any extra space in there, I’d really appreciate it if you signed up for the Today, Explained newsletter. Take care, and thanks very much for reading Vox.
