Our cookbook’s been getting some LOVE!!! We’re so thrilled and grateful for all the features, the reviews, and the extremely kind words so many of you have shared about the book. Watching folks actually cook through the book and find their favorite recipes is an unreal feeling! We’ve sold out of our entire first print run and are on to the second!!
It did break our hearts that we didn’t make the NYT Bestsellers list (our numbers were real close!) but honestly, it ended up being a great reminder of why we do what we do. When we got this deal in 2021, we were one of such few. We got a lot of “We have another Indian author on our roster” and “We already got an Indian book a few seasons ago”. So, I’m really hoping that as this book spreads and people cook from it, we will not be on the NYT Bestsellers list but the next generation absolutely will, and it won’t even be a question!
Meanwhile, here are some of my favorite snippets of praise for the book (allow me this tiny indulgence please!):
“With help from recipe developer Asha Loupy and photographer Melati Citrawireja, Kadri works to highlight the rich flavors and history of South Asian spices and the farms behind them, while recognizing that too often, and for centuries, these people and ingredients have been overshadowed by the economic effects of colonialism…It’s a love letter to the people who bring spice and vibrant color to so many of the foods we love to eat.” LA Times
“Sana and Asha spent months cooking with the farming families who grow their spices across India and Sri Lanka, and those families' recipes are in here. Adapted for your kitchen, but still tasting like they came from the source.” Hot Dish With Sohla
“Adapted for a global pantry, these recipes share the warmth of true South Asian home cooking at its truest and tastiest…This incredibly fresh, beautifully photographed, powerful collection is a celebration of these farming families, their precious harvests, and how they season recipes with big flavor.” USA Today
