This kit is 4 years in the making (!!) and has involved the incredible cross-continental efforts of hundreds of people across the LOKA and Diaspora Co. teams in the U.S., UK, China, and India. I like to think of it as a collab of South Asian engineering and flavor excellence, that’s truly for the culture!

The LOKA Chai Maker
Think of this Chai Maker as a kettle-meets-saucepan-meets-moka-pot but perfectly tailored for your daily chai. LOKA co-founders Anish and Nikhil built this to make the beautiful ritual of chai-making more accessible! The LOKA Chai Maker is essentially 3 elements: a removable strainer, a no-spill rim with a fountain lip, and a base pot. It’s designed to ensure your chai NEVER boils over, and tastes perfect every single time!
The Diaspora Co. Masala Chai Blend
We truly understand the incredible effort our regenerative farmers put into growing the ingredients that make a perfect cup of chai. So, when we decided to develop an exclusive Masala Chai Blend for this kit, we knew it had to be spice-forward, fragrant and well-balanced with our medium-strength black tea. Everyone has their version of chai and this is proudly and distinctly ours!

Here’s how to make the best chai using this kit:
- Add 1-2 tbsp of the Masala Chai Blend into the strainer. Add a sweetener of your choice. We recommend 1-2 tsp of Madhur Jaggery for a rich sweetness that perfectly complements the warm spices!
- Pour your choice of milk and water up to the 600ml mark (I like doing 400ml milk + 200ml water for thicker, creamier chai). You could just pour it into the strainer OR use Anish’s pro tip and pour it from the side so you can see the levels inside the strainer more easily!
- Place the Chai Maker on the stove and brew on medium heat for 6-8 minutes.
- THE BEST PART: Watch the chai foam slowly rise—don’t panic, no boil-overs here! Once it rises to the top, it will automatically filter back through the strainer. This process aerates your chai, increasing the release of those aromatics and oils in the spices, and seriously upping the flavor of your chai! Let this run for 3-5 minutes.
Our tip: For a stiff-yet-caramelly cup of chai, reduce the heat and bring it back up to a simmer 2-3 times (aka get 2-3 cool chai fountains)! This makes your chai thicker and spicier, and allows that deep caramelly goodness from the jaggery to really come through!
- Pour confidently (it won’t spill anywhere) into your cup and enjoy steaming hot! I highly recommend doing a lil’ slurp instead of a simple sip so you’re not burning your tongue (I also think it somehow makes the chai taste better, don’t ask me why)!
The Chai Maker is easy to clean, compatible with induction cooktops, and brews without any mess on your stove! Everything we do is ultimately in the pursuit of BIG flavor, and to me, this kit feels like such a solid step in that direction.
