The best part of taco night is that it takes just one bit of stovetop cooking (for the filling) and everything else can be done away from the heat! PLUS keeping it DIY if you’re hosting friends or family actually makes it more fun. Relatively low effort for a pretty delicious pay-off! The supermarket taco seasoning packets of our childhoods are just as nostalgic as they are filled with sodium, too much chilli, and some very dusty spices. When we set out to make our Taco Seasoning back in 2018, we wanted to redefine what a good taco seasoning could be. So, ours has a balance of umami from garlic and onion powder and a mix of different types of heat! Byadgi chillies add vibrancy, while Sirārakhong chillies add chipotle-like smokiness, and black pepper brings a complex, floral heat. A touch of sumac and jaggery adds just enough tang and sweetness! Use our taco seasoning for ground beef, turkey, chicken, or your favorite plant-based ground meat. It also amps up the flavor of crumbled tempeh, seitan, tofu, and mushrooms. I also love making Asha’s Rajma Chili and layering that onto crunchy tostadas with lettuce, sour cream, avo slices, and some grilled chicken!
